The notions 'to see', 'to look' and 'to wait', have been linked in various ways and transposed into the interior. Twin opposing concepts like far-off/close by, inside/outside, still/moving etc have been used for this.
The initial notions can also be seen in the illustrations by Thomas Elshuis. In connection with the bamboo benches, they create the illusion of being on a ship, with space and time gliding by.
The linear patterns on the floor, taken from illustrations depicting various ophthalmological conditions, organize the space and direct the visitor to the counter and the various departments. The images in the 'portholes' on the wall, fool with the viewer's perception.
