SELECTION OF PROJECTS FROM THE PAST YEARS
Escher Museum: adviceThere is a desire in The Hague to create a new Escher Museum. The existing museum, 'Escher in Het Paleis', has reached the limits of its growth at its current location, with about 190,000 visitors a year. The idea is to locate a new museum in the former American Embassy, an iconic design by Marcel Breuer. Soda has been asked by the Escher Collection Foundation and the Art Museum to advise on the conceptualisation and on the defining of the qualitative goals.City Hall UtrechtSoda is consulting on the use of the area of Utrecht City Hall accessible to the public. The city hall needs to become livelier: a 'House of the City' where the people of Utrecht can participate in political, educational and cultural activities. This places demands on the already frequently renovated nationally listed monument. Singer Laren > exhibitionFrom 12 September 2023 till 8 Januari 2024, the exhibition 'LA GRANDE BLEUE' was on show at Singer Laren. Soda was responsible for its design. 'LA GRANDE BLEUE' tells the story of painters who, from 1870 onwards, were drawn to the Mediterranean Sea to explore new artistic directions.Miffy MuseumThe revamped Miffy Museum opened to the public on 21 June 2023. Soda was responsible for designing the renovation and the new areas. Earlier, in 2016, Soda completed the transformation of the Dick Bruna House into the Miffy Museum. The Miffy Museum subsequently became such a enormous success in terms of visitor numbers that Soda was asked to design both an extension and a redesign of the existing museum. Museum GoudaFor Museum Gouda, Soda conducts a design study which started in late 2022. It focuses on making the monumental complex more sustainable and improving accessibility. Soda is also investigating how the museum can move away from using natural gas. Zaans MuseumSoda conducted in 2023 a design study for the Zaans Museum. The rationale here was twofold: a repositioning of the museum in relation to the adjacent Zaanse Schans; and looking into the sustainability and renovation of the building. Dortmunder U Since 2017, Soda has been working on various assignments for the 'Dortmunder U'. This former brewery houses several cultural institutions including the Museum Ostwall. Soda examined how the identity of the Dortmunder U as a whole could be strengthened.

Municipal Museum SchiedamIn May 2022, the Municipal Museum Schiedam reopened. Soda was, together with Bordewijk/De Adviseurs, responsible for the design and the renovation. Exhibition halls, circulation areas and visitor spaces were renewed and adapted to highest museum requirements within the possibilities of the building being a national monument. Netherlands' Photo MuseumPrior to the decision to move the Netherlands' Photo museum (Rotterdam) to a new location, Soda created for the current location Las Palmas a new layout for the entrance area, routing, exhibition spaces and ancillary functions. Open Air Museum > Craft WorkshopSoda transformed the former entrance building of the Dutch Open Air Museum into a 'Crafts Workshop': a multifunctional space where visitors can learn about crafts by experimenting with them themselves. In April 2022, the Crafts Workshop was officially opened.Dutch Open Air Museum > exhibitionSoda designed in 2021 the exhibition 'Makers in the Picture' for the Dutch Open Air Museum in which contemporary craftsmen are in focus. Textile MuseumThe Textile Museum (Tilburg) has ambitious renovation plans. Mecanoo and ABT Engineers have been invited to submit an explorative design. Formerly, together with the museum, Soda developed in 2022 a vision paper on the functional, logistical and fundamental opportunities.Afrika Museum Soda developed in 2019 for the Afrika Museum a preliminary design for the entrance area, ticket office, cloakroom, shop, café and the adjacent exhibition spaces. Furthermore, Soda renovated several exhibition rooms in the oldest part of the museum. Centraal Museum > redesign Soda successfully carried out the redesign - including research and concept - of the Centraal Museum Utrecht (design by Soda+). The Centraal Museum was nominated in 2018 for the EMYA, the European Museum of the Year Award. Important elements were the connection of the building to the city, the integration into the environment, the visitor routing, multifunctional spaces, the entrance/shopping area, the catering and the garden.Rijksmuseum Boerhaave For the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave (Leiden), Soda designed the entrance-area, the shop, the cafe and the rentable spaces. The museum reopened in 2017.Museum Oud AmelisweerdIn 2016 the 'EU Prize for Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Awards' in the category ‘Outstanding achievements in the conservation, enhancement and adaptation to new uses of cultural heritage’ was awarded to Museum Oud Amelisweerd.
